Day one

What happens to your firm the day you say yes.

A managing partner asks how long this takes, what breaks while it happens and what it costs in disruption. Three of the answers here are that nobody knows yet.

  • The migration is scoped, priced and timetabled in writing before you commit, and the order of work is agreed with your firm.
  • The two systems run alongside each other while the firm settles, and your existing record stays readable.
  • Support is unlimited for the first three months after go live.
  • No migration duration is stated on this page, because the largest part of it sits with the supplier you are leaving.

Read this before the rest

Everything below is either a term Bracton Ltd will contract to before you sign or a statement that something is not settled. What it costs sits on the prices page.

The four questions

i.

What the firm gets, in order

Connection, configuration and training, with a migration scoped and priced in writing before you commit. Committed in writing

Bracton is connected to your system, configured to your precedents, house style and matter types, and your people are trained. On the assistant route that is the whole of it.

How the two systems overlap

On the platform route that configuration runs alongside a migration of your data.

The order of work is agreed with you, including which departments move first and what happens to your closed files.

ii.

What the firm has to do

Co-operation, access and any consent your current supplier requires, two named administrators, and responsibility for your own data. Committed in writing

You give us the co-operation, the information and the access the work needs, and on the assistant route the consent your current supplier requires. You are responsible for the accuracy of your own data.

The people you name

You nominate at least two administrators. They register and revoke devices, end sessions, remove leavers' accounts and set your information barriers, and Bracton provides the means rather than acting for you.

You also name your COLP, your compliance officer for finance and administration, and a contact for a breach notification who is reachable at any hour.

What the agreement does not ask

Nothing obliges your firm to clean its data before a migration, to release staff for training, or to sign off that the deployment is done. Ask at the proposal stage if you want those written in.

iii.

If you want out

Your matters, documents, correspondence and ledgers exportable throughout and for ninety days after the end, without charge, whatever the dispute. Committed in writing

The export comes out in a usable and documented format, taken by your own administrator without a support request and without giving a reason.

The right to take it is not affected by a dispute, by money owing, by suspension for non payment or by termination for your own breach.

What comes out, and how

Documents come out in their original formats with the matter reference, the dates and the authorship preserved, structured records with a field list and a schema description, and your audit log on the same terms.

Read access to your matters, dates and ledgers, the export itself and your audit log cannot be suspended, withheld or restricted for any reason. Before the ninety days run out you get reminders at thirty days and at seven, and nothing is deleted until you confirm you hold a complete export.

Nothing is suspended where doing so would stop your firm meeting a court deadline, a limitation date or a hearing we have been told about.

The clause covers those four categories and the audit log, and not your diary, your time records or the precedents you have configured. Say so before signature if you want them in.

iv.

Support while people learn it

Unlimited for the first three months, then included on fair use. Committed in writing

Support is unlimited for the first three months after your go live date, then included on fair use. An incident touching client money, a court deadline, a limitation date or the security of your data is the most serious category.

What support covers

It covers help using the system, the correction of faults, user administration and refresher training, and genuine faults and outages are never counted against you.

Three answers we do not have

How long a platform migration takes

Not known

Moving a firm's live caseload, documents and ledgers is months of work, which is why the initial term is twenty four months.

What it turns on

The largest variable is what your current supplier will export and how long they take over it. After that it turns on how many years of matter data come with you, its condition and how many departments move at once.

We tell you in writing as soon as the timetable is at risk. The migration tooling is in the third phase of the build and is not written yet.

What the assistant will reach

Not known until we look at yours

On the assistant route Bracton reaches what your current system's interface exposes and no more. Some systems expose the ledger thinly or not at all, so the accounts work is out of reach until you move.

What it turns on

Six systems were checked against their own published developer material in July 2026. Actionstep and Clio publish documentation a third party can read without signing anything first, LEAP runs a developer console whose reference needs registration, and Proclaim, Osprey and Visualfiles publish claims about open integration with no reachable developer reference behind them.

No connector is promised before that host's access terms are held in writing, and the primary route is your own document store. We tell you in writing what the connector reaches before you commit, and that answer goes into the agreement.

Uptime, support hours and response times

Deliberately left blank

There is no availability figure in our agreement, no support hours and no target response times. The schedule that would carry them is empty and says why.

What it turns on

The host for a paying firm is not settled, and Bracton Ltd is a company of one director.

A firm that needs a contractual service level should raise it at the proposal stage. Maintenance happens outside business hours where practicable and is notified five working days ahead.

Where your data sits

All of your data is stored and processed in the United Kingdom, covering the database, the document storage, the backups, the search index, the audit log and every queue and cache.

The host, the sub processors, the Cyber Essentials certificate and the certification path from here are on the security page. The questions about insurance, escrow and what happens if the company fails are on the answers page.

What the review involves is on its own page.
