Bracton
The whole practice on one system, with the work already done.
Bracton runs your matters, documents, diary, time and money, with the assistant built in. A firm that moves onto it replaces its present system.
- Every live file read overnight, with the work drafted.
- Every date computed from the rule that produces it.
- Client money and office money kept apart, and a breaching save refused.
- Time recorded from what a fee earner did.
Illustrative. The application as a fee earner meets it in the morning, and every screen below comes from the same software, on invented files.
What the platform holds
Bracton holds what a firm in England and Wales needs to conduct legal work.
What the record holds
The matters and parties, the documents and correspondence, the diary with its limitation engine, time recording and billing, the client and office ledgers kept under the SRA Accounts Rules, anti money laundering and conflict searching, the court and Land Registry forms, and the compliance record a regulator would ask to see.
Unlike the system you run today, it does not wait to be asked. Where a contract holds you elsewhere, the assistant is sold on its own.
The platform, screen by screen
The morning list
Each fee earner opens the day to the files that need attention, each with the action drafted. The sweep runs every working day, never on a Saturday, a Sunday or a bank holiday.
The checks that keep the firm current
Underneath sit the Civil Procedure Rules, the practice directions and the HMCTS forms, checked weekly for a changed edition.

Every date carries its rule
The limitation engine reads the file, finds the trigger, applies the rule and writes the date.
A divorce file, 43 days counted
A divorce file, the engine counting 43 days from the conditional order and saying why on the entry.
Illustrative. Working software, on an invented file.
Money moves by named acts
Bracton has no dropdown. Every movement of money is one of nine named acts, answered from the ledger, and the decision the SRA Accounts Rules care about is not left to whoever is posting.
What the acts refuse
Client money will not go overdrawn, and a receipt is not office money where nothing stands billed. A transfer answers costs properly billed and no more, and a refusal comes back in the cashier's own words with the ledger as the proof.
Illustrative. Working software, on invented figures and names.
The act to press. Receive a mixed payment takes a payment covering a delivered bill and leaving a surplus, and splits it at the door, the billed part to the office account and the rest to the client account. It commits whole or not at all, and no one is asked which account.
Four more screens sit on their own page, the recovered time, the accounts rules, the court forms and the permissions.
Moving a firm across is scoped, priced and timetabled in writing before you commit, on the implementation page.
What sits behind the screens
i.
The assistant is built in
It reads and writes the same record as the rest of the platform.
How it works
How it reaches the whole record
Bracton works the ledger, the diary, the time record and the correspondence as one thing, so it compares work done on a fixed fee against the scope agreed.
Drafts come from your own precedents, and research answers cite an authority you can open, or say that none was found.
ii.
Governance runs through it
A qualified fee earner signs off every output, and every action sits in an audit trail.
How it works
The software produces first drafts, a qualified fee earner checks them, and nothing leaves the firm unsigned.
The terms behind the principle
Processing runs on United Kingdom infrastructure, client data is never used to train any model, and your precedents are configured for your firm alone. The permissions Bracton reads under are set and changed by the firm.
The hosting and model terms are what Bracton Ltd contracts to before your firm signs. The security page sets out where the data sits, what the Cyber Essentials certification covers and which choices are still open.
If a contract holds you
The contract diary
Case management agreements commonly run three to five years. Give us the date yours ends.
A quarter before that date we write to you once. Meanwhile the assistant runs inside the system you have.
